I Love Coffee
4 Sep
I have a confession to make. I LOVE COFFEE. I love the way it smell, look, taste, all the new flavors, and creamers too.
I love to watch people drink coffee.
My love for coffee started when I was a little girl. My dad would wake up early every morning rain or shine. He would get the electric pot and fill it with water, put the coffee grinds in the top filter, plug it in and wait for it to peculate.
In the 70’s most people didn’t use instant coffee or quick drip pots like we use now. You either boiled it in a coffee pot on top of the stove or put it in an electric drip pot and it would slowly drip. I would lye in bed smelling the wonderful aroma.
When my dad drank his coffee it was like a fine art. He would take the spoon then stir it around in circles and lightly sip the spoon. Then he would lay the spoon in the saucer and proceed to slowly sip his coffee. As he sipped from his cup he would close his eyes as if it was the sweetest taste he ever put in his mouthI kid you not. You could hear him sipping from the bedroom. After my dad drank his first cup of coffee he would proceed to the refrigerator and take out eggs, bacon and sandwich bread. Then you would hear the sizzle of bacon. It was the most delightful smell I could remember.
When I awake I’d see my dad sitting at the breakfast table sipping his cup of coffee. It gave me such a wonderful feeling to see him all relaxed and happy.
The only thing about all the powerful smells coming from the kitchen is that the coffee was totally off limits to children. My dad would say “coffee is for grown folk”.
My dad didn’t drink coffee for breakfast only, he would drink it all day long. Every time I saw him with a cup I would watch him drinking and wishing I could have some too.
Sometimes I would try and sneak a sip from his cup when he wasn’t looking. I didn’t have much luck at that. That’s why I developed the strong desire to drink coffee just like my dad.
